William K. Ott, P.E.
Technical Principal

40+ years applied well completions and stimulation in oil, gas, and geothermal fields worldwide. SME in fracturing, water control, slurry design, and cementing. Experience totals 250 projects, including 150 hydraulic fracturing and 40 in water control treatments. Distinguished Lecturer. R&D management and new products training, Halliburton US and Asia. 20 geothermal projects across five countries for clients including Dohnan, Idemitsu, JMC, Pertamina, PNOC, SK Engineering, and Tuwharetoa. Authored 20+ industry handbooks and papers. B.S., ChemE.

Jeffery A. Spray
Managing Director

30 years in technology, BD, drilling, well services, supply, and equipment for oil, gas, water, geothermal, and environmental industries. Consulted and designed three of the largest drilling program types performed in the US. Devised and lead realization of novel elastically expandable and self-sealing tubular technologies with 50 applications, securing six development cooperations and grants. Lead novel manufacturing process developments, construction, and operation of a specific purpose R&D, engineering, testing, and fabrication center. Six patents in drilling, completions, interventions, and production fields. B.S. Business Administration.
The DTS Team
An outstanding assemblage of advanced level SME’s from all fields concerning utility scale geothermal design, creation, operation, diagnosis, and remediation. Included are CEO’s of technical suppliers, most with advanced educations, and multiple SPE Distinguished Lecturers. All have multiple decades background. Their expertise is applied, consisting of both advanced technical training and hands-on field work. Two members are responsible for the development and implementation of the highest temperature stable-gelled carrier fluids available with field demonstrated tolerance exceeding 550°F and bonded stability past 6
50°.

L.E. Capuano, Founder and CEO of Capuano Engineering. 40+ years drilling engineering, well design, and consulting. He founded and led for 30 years ThermaSource, LLC, a geothermal well engineering and drilling consultancy and contractor, providing cementing and additional supporting technical and management services, resource assessment, and developmental services throughout the Americas and the Pacific Rim. Capuano Engineering, providing similar consulting in seven countries. Long-term board member for GRC and the International Geothermal Association; former board GEA; founding president, Geysers Geothermal Association. Mr. Capuano is a regular DOE collaborator. 
 
Peter M. Duncan, Ph.D., Founder and CEO, Microseismic, Inc. Geophysics, Seismic, passive seismic, and microseismic specialist. Related research and development in exploration, development, and immersive visualization for hydrocarbon and mineral industries.

S. M. Gupta, 25 years CFD and thermal analysis, thermal fluids scientist, propulsion, and simulation specialist. CFD software development management in fluid flow, mass transfer, radiation, turbulence. Advisor to Applied Materials, NASA, TRW, Raytheon. M.S., MechE.

N. I. Miller, Ph.D. , Product Development Chemist and Chemical Manufacturing – 40+ years researching and developing patented chemical systems: 10 - hydraulic fracturing fluids, 3 - water control systems, and 2 - diverting well treatments. Especially notable co-invention of two fracturing systems: (1) a continuous cross-linked guar gum gel and (2) silica gel targeting low permeability gas wells and high-temperature geothermal wells. EOR work includes the development of patents related to water shutoff with organic and inorganic polymers. The latter was allied with high-temperature well applications.
 
Trevor K.C. Pugh, CEO, Deep Imaging Technologies, inventor electro-magnetic / ferro metric sensing for use in vertical fracture reflectivity, fiber/DTS sensing. 35+ years of energy technology innovation in microseismic, EM surveying, production control, MWD, BOP, vision-based wireline, and coiled tubing measuring systems. Ten patents issued. H.N.D., Applied Physics.
 
R. M. Rodriguez, Mechanical and Manufacturing Consulting Engineer. Developmental consultant for difficult subsurface and laboratory tooling.  20 years mechanical design, Class-1 precision machining, CNC programming, manufacturing, machine, product, and technology development. Record deephole drilling specialist. Materials and manufacturing process developments (design, build, and implement) cover ~200ksi plate forming, zero HAZ laser joining, 1200-ton radial press, and include electrical, hydraulic, and laser subsystems. Other drilling product developments include: Downhole Testing Tool, receiving Special Meritorious Award for Engineering Innovation, Energy; novel early kick detection system design and construction. Managed a novel R&D facility, also advising acquisitions. ISO Officer, B.S. Mechanical Engineering. 

Donald D. Schwemmer, Jr., Co-Founder and President, AMET, Inc., designers and manufacturers of advanced control and data acquisition systems for automated welding processes with customers including Lockheed Martin, Ford, Boeing, Allied Signal, INEL, LLNL, and LANL. 35 years advanced manufacturing automation, materials joining and coatings processes, equipment, and tooling developments. Received Rockwell's President's Award for establishing and managing a team to develop processes and manufacture a critical weapon's component on a highly compressed schedule. Distinguished Achievement Medalist, Colorado School of Mines. M.S. Metallurgical Engineering. MBA.​

Bill Valdez, Finance Consultant, 40 years of private/public energy sector experience. Strategic advisor to multinationals: Marubeni, ABB Inc., J-Power Fiat, Honeywell, Accenture,  Deloitte. Served at the highest levels of government, including the White House Office of Science & Technology Policy. MA, Int’l Economics and Energy.

Starnes Walker, Ph.D., is a DTS Science Advisor and former senior S&T advisor for DHS and DTRA, as well as  Executive Director and Chief Scientist of the Naval Research Lab. Also with leadership roles at all major branches of DoD, and five DOE Labs, among Walker’s former and current awards and memberships are: R&D 100 Award, Office of the Secretary of Defense – Exceptional Civilian Service Medal, Recipient-U.S. Naval Weapons Center Fellowships, Member-Air Force Studies Board, Committee Member-National Academy of Sciences, White House Presidential Commendation, National Security Program, Member-USAF Cyber Vision 2025 Senior Expert Review Group. 


Douglas Yates, MSEE, System-level Distributed Temperature Sensing system consultant. Designs, deploys, and operates DTS systems that monitor horizontal well fractures and provide thermal insights on their performance.
